BLB Flight is pleased to offer Downwind Technology’s Series of straight or amphibious floats for your Highlander. Originally designed in 1999, the development of the Shark Series line of floats evolved out of a need for an optimum blend of aerodynamic and hydrodynamic performance, combined with a state-of-the-art composite structure.
Since then, Downwind has expanded its standard customer base to include a total of twelve (12) OEMs, including AirBorne, Just Aircraft, Kitfox, Challenger, Sky Ranger, SlipStream and Excalibur. In addition, Downwind has designed adaptation packages and installed the Shark Series floats on a number of other aircraft including Rans, Taylorcraft, Skyboy, Savannah and Piper Cub.
Rapid hydroplaning, low surface tension, reduced drag and unmatched durability are just some of the qualities exemplified by the end product. The pneumatic gear retraction system on our amphibious models is triggered by use of a 4-way toggle valve and features a fail-safe CO2 back-up system, while confirmation of gear extension and retraction is accomplished by means of reed switch activated position lights.
From the all composite V-hull puncture resistant Kevlar keel to the molded-in aluminum mounting plates and unique fail-safe gear retraction system, the Shark Series float has been engineered to be the standard bearer in the industry.
